A Good Idea Monthly Meetings at the Red Victorian Peace Cafe
Since June of 2008, almost every Tuesday evening, A Good Idea has met at the Red Vic Peace Cafe. The weekly meetings serve as the foundation for A Good Idea. The meetings provide us the space where we build community, visualize "good ideas" and cultivate compassion & empathy.
AGI Monthly Meetings - 4th Tuesday at the Red Vic!
The Tuesday night meetings are the first step in our goal of creating a more connected, compassionate society. Every 4th Tuesday evening of the month starting at 6:30pm, A Good Idea meets at the Red Victorian Peace Cafe located at 1665 Haight St. in the heart of historic Haight Ashbury. Each meeting has a topic (i.e. Taking Action, Inspiration vs. Motivation, Helping the Homeless, etc) and a typical agenda looks like this:
6:30-7:00pm - Socializing, Food & Drinks, Getting Situated
7:00-7:05pm - Meeting starts - Short meditation
7:05-7:10pm - Topic introduction and topic-related (non-religious) passage is read
7:10-8:00pm - Introductions and topic discussion
8:00-8:10pm - Social change discussion on specific issue (i.e. homelessness)
8:10-8:25pm - Updates on upcoming volunteer opportunities/projects/events
8:25-8:45pm - Group breakout session
8:45-8:55pm - Final thoughts
Other ways to "connect" & get involved with A Good Idea...
After each meeting, people interested in getting to know everyone better go out for food and drinks.
- Weekly Volunteer Opportunities - Each week, A Good Idea seeks to provide the community an AGI hosted volunteer opportunity. If A Good Idea doesn't have an opportunity set-up for that week, we will set up an opportunity to assist a partner with their event. The idea is simply to get people involved in the community assisting others.
- Call to Arms - Each month, A Good Idea seeks to provide easy, less-intimidating volunteer opportunities for the community to get involved with. Typically with Call to Arms events, the first half of the day or evening is spent volunteering and the second half of the event is spent in a social environment spending time with those who you volunteered with. This again works towards what we think is a critical goal.connecting society.
- Intentional Acts of Kindness (IAOK) - Once a quarter, A Good Idea spreads positivity throughout San Francisco by doing "intentional" acts of kindness for random people. The idea is to create a more connected, Pay-It-Forward type society. Each IOAK ends with an outside-the-box type of event such as a Silent Positivity Hour.
